Q: Car involuntarily accelerates 2-car lengths 1 out of 100 times

Q: Car involuntarily accelerates 2-car lengths 1 out of 100 times

asked by on

I purchased a Lexus-certified used hybrid car and it is exhibiting involuntary acceleration. Two to three times out of 20 when I start to brake, my car accelerates slightly on its own. My car has regenerative braking, so I thought that perhaps the slight voluntary acceleration was normal. It is startling when it happens, but I apply hard pressure to the brake and it stops the acceleration. But “every” time I brake, I have to keep focused and aware that it might happen. When it started doing this, I thought I was hitting both pedals at the same time, but I’m sure that I’m not doing that. The dangerous problem is the distance that it accelerates 1 in 100 times when I brake. My car will accelerate “two” car lengths before I can brake. Naturally, when the mechanic at the dealership rode with me, it didn’t happen! I was told to keep a watch on this and they recorded my complaint. This two-car length acceleration only occurs during summer hot months, like now. There has been no change in the frequency. Have you heard of this in other Lexus hybrids and can you advise me how I can get this fixed (before an accident happens)?

2 hurt when Toyota Lexus crashes into St. Louis Park restaurant

2 hurt when car crashes into St. Louis Park restaurant

Published  Thursday, July 23, 2015

ST. LOUIS PARK — Two people were taken to the hospital after a car drove into a restaurant and bakery in the western Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park.
The Star Tribune reports the Lexus sedan crashed into Yum! Kitchen and Bakery on Wednesday afternoon.
A city official says the car drove through the front doors just before 1 p.m. KSTP-TV reports the car apparently drove backward into the building.
City officials don’t know why the car drove into the restaurant. KSTP reports two people were taken to a hospital for observation.

City official need to do some investigating about Toyota and Lexus. It is everyday that these cars go through brick walls, storefronts, airborne into buildings, lakes, lap pools and every where else you can imagine. Sudden unintended acceleration has been going on with Toyota/Lexus for over 20 years, it was Mark Saylor, Highway patrol officer who exposed this defect in 2009 in San Diego, CA and it cost his life and 3 members of his family. It is so amazing how greedy automakers do not care about lives.

"Red Car?" Obviously a TOYOTA LEXUS! Appears to be a 2006-2013 IS250 or IS350 w/ ALL ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, right? Likely complete with those pesky...and potentially DEADLY...throttle control SOFTWARE glitches that embedded software expert Michael Barr spoke about in Bookout V Toyota lawsuit won by driver of a 2005 Camry! Oh...how exhilarating...and TERRIFYING...according to those who have experienced it FIRST HAND & SURVIVED to tell their stories!

ORLEANS — A woman was taken by MedFlight helicopter to a Boston hospital Saturday after a car she was in crashed into the Orleans United Methodist Church on Main Street, according to the fire department. Her husband, who was driving the car, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries.

Rescuers responded to the church just after 6 p.m., according to firefighter Thomas Pellegrino.

SPECULATION BY A FIREFIGHTER? :

The couple, who are in their 80s, were traveling north on Route 28 when their vehicle allegedly ran a red light and swerved to avoid a vehicle, according to Pellegrino. The man accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and crashed into the building, Pellegrino said.

Police would not comment on the crash as it remains under investigation.

When rescuers arrived on scene, they helped the couple out of their car. The woman has a fractured ankle and another possible injury, while her husband had minor injuries from his seatbelt, he said.

Part of the wall of the church was pushed in, but the exact damage is under investigation by the building inspector, Pellegrino said.

Car Crashes Into Condos: ‘I Woke Up With Debris All Over Me’

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)– A car crashed into a brick wall and then into a condominium complex in Aurora early Saturday morning, damaging three units.

“It was a loud, crashing noise that almost sounded like an explosion,” said resident Jennifer Halpin.

Police rushed to 14242 E. Radcliffe Place just after 4 p.m. Saturday where a Lexus crashed into one condo unit and then completely went into another unit, damaging three units in all.

“I woke up with debris all over me,” said Halpin.

Halpin said the car narrowly missed her as it broke through her living room wall.

“I was sleeping on my couch in my living room and all I know is a car came crashing in,” said Halpin.
Firefighters extracted the driver from his vehicle and he was rushed to the hospital with moderate injuries. He has been identified as a 28-year-old male from Aurora.

Although people were inside the condos at the time of the crash, no one was hurt. Police and firefighters evacuated the condos while the building was inspected.

Police believe the Lexus was traveling westbound on E. Smoky Hill Road at a very high rate of speed. At E. Tufts Place the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, striking a brick wall and then the condos.

“Went through the first home and the car was sitting in the middle of the second home,” said homeowner Curt Sanders.

“Basically my house is destroyed,” said Halpin.

Neighbors told CBS4 this isn’t the first time something like this has happened here.

“We’ve had a couple of people come through our wall in the last four or five years but nothing like this. It looks like a bomb went off,” said Sanders.

“I feel very lucky, actually. I feel very fortunate not to have been hurt,” said Halpin.

Alcohol and speed are factors being considered in the case.

A couple living in Epsom in Surrey have had one of the harshest wake-ups imaginable, after a speeding car smashed through the wall of their first-floor bedroom as they slept and came to rest just inches away from them. Phil Bayles reports.

The silver Lexus came around a bend in Bridge Road, Epsom, mounted a parked Audi and flew into the side of the house, Surrey Police said. The incident happened at 3am on Sunday and punched a large hole in the brick house, causing considerable damage to the owner's bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.

The couple escaped unscathed, and three men who were travelling in the Lexus were taken to Epsom Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
