Two Killed, 6 Others To Hospital In Two Separate Jefferson County Crashes

Oskaloosa, Kan. (WIBW)-- Two people are reported dead and 6 others taken to the hospital, after two separate weekend crashes in Jefferson County.
Kansas Highway Patrol confirms that 17 year old Hunter Levi Terrell of
McLouth, Kansas died after a car crash along K-16 and Rawlings Road just one mile east of US-59 around 4:33 P.M. Saturday. Terrell was a junior at McLouth High School.
KHP officials say Terrell, who was driving a 2007 Honda in the westbound lane, passed a vehicle in front of him and lost control after attempting to get back into his lane, and hit an oncoming vehicle, driven by 26 year old Carolanne Todd of Oskaloosa.
Todd and the 5 passengers riding along with her were all taken to Stormont-Vail and included children ages, 10, 7, 6, and two children at the age on one. Their current condition is unknown. The crash log indicates that neither Carolanne or the 5 children were wearing restraints at the time of the crash.
The wreck caused a portion of K-16 to remain closed from 5:45 until 7:15 p-m and has since been reopened.

Just a few hours later, another accident claimed the life of a Perry man.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says around 7:30 Saturday night Dennis Bedford, 56, was traveling west on 22nd Road when he failed to negotiate a curve.
Officials say Bedford's Toyota Camry traveled down an embankment, rolled on it's top and then caught fire.
Bedford died at the scene. It's unknown if he was wearing his seatbelt.
